Life is worth waiting for!

*Repetitive knock at the door*

"Reeti open the door, Reeti, Reeti... What are you doing inside? Open the door child, its dinner time."  Reeti's mother was knocking the door since 10 minute for now.

"What happened?" her father came and started knocking himself.

He pushed the door hard, the bolt broke and the door was wide open.

Reeti was lying unconscious on bed and her wrist was bleeding red.

"Reeti, what did you do?", her mother started crying like maniacs and her father immediately lift her up and ran down to drive her to hospital.

*In the hospital*

"She is stable now.” the doctor said having a disgusted look.

"Wait, we need to investigate first." the police stopped Reeti's parent at door and entered the room.

*Inside the room*

"Don't be afraid, tell us why did you do this?" the police asked so as not make her feel frightened.

"Nothing, I just was not prepared for my upcoming tests. Sorry", she said bowing her head feeling shy.

*The police leaves and her parents enter the room with a friend of her.*

"Sauransh, now you only make her understand not to do any such thing in future." they left leaving them alone.

"I love you Sauransh and now you know this very well. Now don't ever leave me, or I will die proving my love for you."  Reeti said holding his hand.

Sauransh couldn't utter a single word for now he was not just shocked but terrified till core.

Reeti was recovering steadily and Sauransh was taking good care of her, not out of love but because of fear. He used to ride her to college and then drop her back at home, but he was no more in love with her; on the first place he was never in love with her.

*A month before*

It was fifteen minutes to twelve and Reeti was standing outside Sauransh's place, she knocked and his mother opened the door.

"Reeti what are you doing here child?” Sauransh's mother asked.

"Aunty, I visit every year here on this day at this time only." Reeti said peeping inside.

"But child, Sauransh is out with friends for a party and I thought you would be there with him." his mother said.

"Oh, actually aunty papa doesn't allow me to be out after 10 p.m. may be that is why he didn't take me." she said disheartened.

"By the way the cake is beautiful, bring it here tomorrow morning we will cut it then." the aunt said smiling.
Reeti came back, threw the cake in the dustbin, jumped on bed and started shredding silent tears.

It was the first time Reeti wasn't there with Sauransh on his birthday. Since standard first they celebrated their birthdays together, they were the first to wish each other but today on his 19th birthday he forgot her.

The clock stroke 12 and a cake was kept in front of Sauransh, but his eyes were looking somewhere else. He was busy staring his girlfriend and her ex boyfriend talking to each other.

After a while she came and he asked, "He is your ex boyfriend, your first love, right?"

"Yes, but we broke up long back." she said casually.

"Are you still friends?" he inquired.

"Yes." she answered while making him hold the knife to cut the cake.

He was about to blow the candles but his phone ringed and it was Reeti.
Seeing her name flash on screen he felt sorry and immediately went out to pick the phone dropping the knife there itself, Niyanshi, his girlfriend tried stopping him but he went out in a jiffy.

He picked up the call.

"Happy birthday." she said in a lowered voice.

"Thank you." he answered with a broad smile.
"Where are you?" she questioned.

"I am with Niyanshi, she threw a surprise party for me with her friends, I am so sorry I forgot to invite you. I am.." he was talking to Reeti and apologising for not inviting her when he was interrupted by his girlfriend who came and started shouting for giving Reeti’s call priority over cutting his birthday cake.

"What are you up to? My friends and I am waiting for you there and you are busy talking here." Niyanshi was yelling at top of her voice.

"She is my childhood friend, why are you behaving like this, you invited your ex at my birthday I didn't say anything." he said.

"He is just my friend, but Reeti doesn't like me, she doesn't like us. She likes you.” she said irritated.

The argument heated up and the end result was their break up.

After an hour, he reached Reeti’s place and like always climbed up her balcony and entered her room.

"You slept?” he whispered.

"I am not a zombie, I sleep at night like normal people." she said agitated.

"Hmm, you were right you know, Niyanshi and me weren't meant to be.” he said.

She got up and crawled to him, making him face her, she asked, "Hey, what happened?"

"We broke up." he said sighing.

"Why?" she asked in utter shock.

"I don't want to talk about it please, I am very upset. I even didn't cut my cake.” he said looking at infinity.

Reeti immediately went out and brought some sweets decorated as cake and asked him to cut it as cake.
“What is that cake doing in dustbin?” he inquired.
“I brought it for you but then threw it there in anger.” She said making a puppy face.
He cut the sweet and both of them made each other eat it.
“You know Reeti, you are so loving and caring, we know each other since childhood, now I realize why I broke up today, actually I think I love you, you know we are meant to be.” He said it under a single breath.
“You know even I had a crush on you since standard one, when we use to share our lunch.
I Love you too.” She said shying.

This one impulsive decision was about to change both the lives, but these two had no idea about it. At the age of 19 they thought they were in love, may be they were, may be yes Sauransh was in love with Reeti but there was a ‘may be’ included.
Was it really love or Sauransh just wanted to make Niyanshi jealous?
*At Reeti’s room*
“See baby, out of jealousy Niyanshi patched up with her ex, look at her photos, see...” he was busy looking at Niyanshi’s pictures on a social networking site and wanted Reeti to have a look.
“Baby, see I know it is not easy to forget her, but you will have to move on.” And she kissed him without giving him a chance to speak, and this lead to a love making session.
19, the last teen age, passion runs in blood while we are teenagers, decisions are quick, and results are not given a thought.
Was that really a love making session or Reeti made that happen so that Sauransh doesn’t leave her ever?
This is what we do, right? Peer pressure, demonstration effect all this leads us to make quick, impulsive decisions, which sometimes lead us to unwanted results. What we consider as love sometimes is just infatuation, attraction, lust or just the idea of being in love.

*In a restaurant*
“What to order?” while Reeti was asking Sauransh about the order; Sauransh was busy staring at someone who was sitting across the tables.
“Baby, order anything you want.” He said like a gentleman.
Using the menu card as a cover he covered his face and kept on looking that person, and it was none other than his ex girlfriend Niyanshi, who was sitting with her boyfriend but was not leaving a single chance to steal a glance of Sauransh.
After seeing each other with their new partners they felt jealous, they both made an excuse to go to the washroom and met there.
“So you happy with Reeti?” she asked.
“Yes.” He said smiling faintly.
“And you?” he asked after an awkward pause.
“Don’t know.” She said shrugging her shoulders.
“Did you patch up to make me jealous?” he asked.
“Umm...I still love you...” she said looking straight into his eyes.
She pulled him closer, took him inside one of the washroom and they kissed each other passionately, he was kissing her neck, biting the ear lobes, fondling her breast and both were smooching passionately.
After a while they stopped and Niyanshi said, “We need to tell both our partners about us.”
“Yes I will tell her soon.” He assured.
They both went back to their seats had dinner with their partners and went back to homes.

*After a week*
Sauransh distanced himself from Reeti but could not break up with her.
Niyanshi was sitting next to Sauransh at his place. She said, “you have a plan to keep two girlfriends or what?”
“No Niya, it is nothing like that, it is just, she is very emotional, and I don’t know how she will react to it.” He said being concerned.
“Either you tell her, or I will go and tell her myself.” She yelled in anger.
“No baby I will tell her myself.” He said calming her down.
*At Reeti’s room*
“Hey baby, I was thinking about you only.” She said smiling broad.
“Reeti, you are a very good girl you know.” He said settling himself on the opposite edge of bed.
“Reeti I don’t want to cheat you and I am sorry but I still love Niyanshi.” He said fumbling.
She got up from her spot and roamed in the room keeping her palm on her forehead, and Sauransh followed her behind.
“Get out!”She said pushing him out of the room.
“We can remain best friends Reeti.” He shouted from behind the door.
Best friends. Huh! Really you think you can even face that person after break up? No matter how mature you are, being friends with ex needs courage and these two were just teenagers.
This one event leads Reeti to attempt suicide.

*Present scenario*
The phone kept on bedside table rings.
It kept on ringing for half an hour now.
“22 missed calls, this girl is mad or what?” Niyanshi asked agitated.
“I don’t know baby, even I am irritated, but I fear if she takes a more drastic step?” he said worried.
“She is emotionally blackmailing you, and you are getting swayed away.” Niyanshi said.
“I am going to tell her the truth today, I can’t take this anymore.” He picked his bike keys and left.

*At Reeti’s place*

“Hey!” said Sauransh.
“Hi, where were you? I called you so many times, you didn’t answer even once.” She inquired.
“Therefore I came here. Why were you calling?” he asked while he received Niyanshi’s call and kept it on dining table.
“Nothing, I was just missing you.” She said hugging him from behind.
“Reeti see I don’t love you so please stop doing all this.” He said straight without hesitating.
Reeti fell back on sofa and didn’t utter a single word for few seconds which seemed as hours to Sauransh.
“Would you like to have some cake I made?” she asked as if nothing happened.
Sauransh looked at her in astonishment, to which she answered really coolly, “don’t worry; I won’t do anything this time. I should understand that we are not meant to be, but we can be friends right?” She said smiling.
“Of course we can. Bring the cake you have made.” He said still not believing what just happened.
Due to network error the call disconnected and Niyanshi didn’t call back as she too was reassured about Reeti now.
“Here, tell me how it is?” Reeti offered him the cake.
“It is...” he could barely complete the sentence that he started feeling dizzy.
“If you can’t be mine, I won’t let you belong to anyone else; I love you more than anyone.” And even she consumed the same cake and both lied unconscious on floor.
They both were taken to the hospital, but the poison was strong and they died.
Yes Reeti added rat poison to the cake and ended their lives, for she could not see Sauransh with anyone else.
Two lives that could bring a change and make a difference in the world ended like this making people related to them sad for a lifetime and above all leaving a wrong impression on their admirers.
What took their lives?
Impulsiveness, yes of course youngsters are tend to live in impulsiveness but you should think before doing anything that could affect people around you. Two people who could have achieved heights in future faced death because of uncertain decisions they made.
Who was responsible for this event?
You, me or anyone else!
But the question at first place is, were they really in love? May be they were, may be they weren’t.
In this case what took their life was possessiveness and obsession of Reeti for Sauransh.
If you see around yourself you would see many such cases, some people end up like these two but some people handle situations like this maturely and make it a turning point of their life.
Don’t make events like this your life, this is just part of life and teenage break up and crushes are meant to be kept there in teenage life while you move ahead taking a lesson and implementing it in your life where needed.
I would like to end my story here hoping that people who are reading it would never in life attempt such a sin of taking someone else’s and their own life, for life is a gift of GOD and only he has the right to take it away from you when you have completed your part of drama called LIFE.
